KNOW WHAT IS IN YOUR SKINCARE

Not all skincare is created equal; some ingredients commonly found in commercial skincare can harm your skin rather than deliver the promised results. Always read labels and stick to active professional grade cosmeceuticals, rather than an off-the-shelf brand.

TOP 4 INGREDIENTS TO AVOID:

1 - BENZYL PEROXIDE. Found in most commercial acne and blemish formulations it is added to skincare to dry out breakouts.Although initially effective at getting rid of the pesky pimple, benzyl peroxide will strip your skin over time causing surface dryness. Dry skin is stressed skin which leads to over production of sebum (oil) leading to, you've guessed it, more breakouts.

2 - PARABENS. These can be found in many types skincare and in most commercial shampoo and soap brands. Most reputable companies are now phasing out Parabens due to their bad press. Why avoid them? Parabens are thought to be xenoestrogens and therefore play a part in hormone imbalances.

3 - SLS. Sodium lauryl sulfate is mostly found in foaming cleansers, soaps and shampoos. It is both stripping, causing skin dryness, and congesting, causing blocked pores. So check your bottles because washing your hair with a shampoo containing SLS could be causing breakouts on your back.

4 - ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL
Used in compact makeup as a preservative and solvent, isopropyl alcohol is also used instead of formaldehyde in specimen preservation, it is also sold at Bunnings - go figure! Needless to say you DO NOT want this on your skin.
