LED LIGHT THERAPY & WHY YOU NEED IT

Most people with 'beauty know how' have heard of LED Light Therapy by the term Omnilux, which is actually the brand name of a particular LED machine.

An LED Light Therapy treatment uses clinically proven wavelengths of UV-free LED lights that boost collagen production, treat acne and provide a well-rounded burst of rejuvenation to the skin, all while sitting back and relaxing.

THE SCIENCE BASICS

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Without getting too technical, an LED is a light source that emits infra-red light when activated, unlike tanning beds LED does not emit UV light and is therefore perfectly safe.

Each colour of light will target different layers of the skin. For example, the blue light can only penetrate the skin to just below the superficial layer which is where acne bacteria can be found, whereas the red light can penetrate far deeper within the layers of the skin for cell renewal. LED light therapy is usually administered via light panels that are directed at the skin from a few inches away.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LIGHT

As mentioned above there are different colours of LED light. At Mi:skn Clinic we use red and blue light in treatments. Red is used to reduce inflammation and promote circulation, cell renewal and collagen production. Blue is best for clients who are prone to or suffer from breakouts and acne has it destroys acne-causing bacteria. Our therapists will asses which light is best for you.
